LCCI for export of surplus sugar

LAHORE, Aug 7: The president, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr. Khalid Javaid Chowdhry has demanded of the federal government to allow export of surplus sugar from the country to save this sector from any financial crisis.

In a press Statement issued here on Tuesday, he said that the sugar industry would produce around 800,000-900,000 tons of surplus sugar in next crushing season because of availability of sugarcane in abundance.

The surplus production, if kept unutilized, would hamper cash flow to the mills thus creating serious liquidity crunch for the sugar industry and sugar growers.

The sugar export, the LCCI president said, would not only improve health of the national exchequer but also enhance cash flow to mills.—APP
