Australians advised to leave Pakistan

CANBERRA, Aug 6: Australia on Tuesday urged its citizens living in Pakistan to consider leaving after six people were killed in an attack on a school for children of foreign missionaries.

Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the attack on the Murree Christian School was a deliberate act against foreigners.

Six Pakistanis were killed and at least three people were wounded in the attack on Monday.

“There were 16 Australians at the school at the time of the attack and any number of them could have been killed... this underlines the delicate state of security in Pakistan,” Downer told Australian Broadcasting Corp television.

Downer advised Australians to consult the government’s travel advice on Pakistan which recommends they defer all travel to the country or leave if they are already there.—Reuters
