HANGU, Aug 5: PPP (Sherpao) Chairman and former NWFP chief minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has urged the government to refrain from experimenting on the democracy as, he said, this practice had had disastrous effects on Pakistan’s internal and external situation.
He was talking to Dawn during his visit to Hangu District after being elected the chief of his splinter group of the Pakistan People’s Party.
Sherpao, about the general elections in October, said that if the government was sincere in hodling free and transparent elections in the country, then it should not promote any particular group or party. The government should take all the political leadership in confidence before taking any decision on hodling or otherwise of the elections.
Regarding the graduation condition for the candidates of national and provincial assemblies, the former chief minister said the government had snatched the right of contesting polls from 98 per cent population of the country.
The PPP (Sherpao) rejects the graduation condition and demanded that it should be withdrawn.
He declared that though his party would participate in the general elections with full preparation, the Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) had not decided yet about entering into an election alliance with any party or alliance.
