DADU, Aug 4: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said that repair of canals, bunds and waterways will be initiated soon and the construction of water-lift pump schemes at Aral Wah and Danaster Wah, stopped due to lack of funds, will be restarted.

Talking to newsmen during visit to the shrine of Hazrat Qalandar Lal Shahbaz in Sehwan on Sunday, the governor said the Sindh government was paying due attention to the Manchhar Lake and added that problems of its fishermen would be solved.

He observed that after the completion of repair and construction work of Aral Wah and Danaster Wah lift pumping schemes, sweet water would be supplied to various parts of Sehwan taluka.

He assured that water would be provided to Dal, Bhan, Bubak and Arazi waterways from the Indus River through the lift pumping schemes to irrigate lands in the area.

Mr Soomro asked growers not to stage demonstrations against water shortages, rather inform him about their problems to resolve the same immediately.

He said the Sindh government would provide funds to the Dadu district government for the construction work of the shrine of Laki Shah Saddar, which was stopped owing to lack of funds.

The Sindh governor also inaugurated a Musafirkhana at Sehwan, which was built for Zarain at a cost of Rs5.8 million.

He directed the Auqaf secretary and the DCO, Dadu, to complete the construction work of Dhamal Court and other parts of the shrine in the second phase without any delay.

Later, Sindh governor visited the shrine of Laki Shah Saddar near Sehwan where he met delegations of locals.

Our Thatta correspondent adds: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said a new mechanical project is being commissioned at Dhabeji Pumping station which will be completed within three years.

The project would help meet the water requirement of Karachiites and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) would be capable to supply water to 95 per cent population of the metropolis, the governor added.

Talking to newsmen after briefing by the managing director, KWSB, Brig Behram, the governor said Karachi was getting water through the KB Feeder, supplying 48,000 gallons of water every day from the Keenjhar Lake.
