Maqbool denies meeting Shahbaz

Published August 5, 2002

LAHORE, Aug 4: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has denied that he met Mr Shahbaz Sharif or any member of his family in Saudi Arabia.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, the governor said that he had gone to seek mercy of Allah at his own expense and did not have time to even talk to myself.

He said these were the people who would contest the forthcoming elections. The government’s job would be to only remain impartial, ensure law and order and protect its credibility, he said, adding its policies would help restore genuine democracy in the country.

The governor said that general elections would be held in a fair and transparent manner and the government would fully cooperate with the election commission in this regard.

He said Gen Pervez Musharraf would hold the office of the president even after the elections and his policies would continue to be implemented.

Meanwhile, the governor inspected the Mochi Gate garden and ordered the authorities concerned to look up its conditions so as to provide a better playground to children.
