Nine killed in Valley violence

SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Nine people, including two members of the National Conference, were killed in occupied Kashmir, news reports said on Saturday.

Two village headmen of the National Conference were shot dead by gunmen in a village in Anantnag and Pulwama districts on Friday night, police said.

Another civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday, the United News of India added.

Two Indian soldiers and four Mujahideen were killed in clashes in central Kashmir on Friday night.

“Militants are repeating what they did in 1990 again. We feel insecure and there is no option left but to either leave the party or go into hibernation,” a NC member said.—dpa
