KARACHI, Aug 3: Vice-chancellor NED University of Engineering and Technology, Engr Abul Kalam, on Saturday categorically rejected the proposals to establish national or provincial testing authorities to conduct pre-admission tests, saying “instead the government should improve the performance of the intermediate boards all over the country”.
Talking to PPI on the occasion of pre-admission tests at the university, he said that pre-admission entry and aptitude tests held by various educational institutions were an extra burden on students’ pockets.
“Both the boards and universities in a province are administered by the provincial government and it is regrettable to ask universities to perform boards’ duties”, he said.
He disclosed that because of the transparency of tests conducted by the NED University, the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) has sent its observers to learn its procedure, while another educational institution had requested the varsity to conduct its pre-admission entry tests.
“If they agree to our method We may impart training for a system of 100% transparent pre-admission tests”, he added.
On the occasion, chairman Admission Committee, Dr Shams-ul- Haq, informed that some 5643 candidates had registered themselves for pre-admission entry tests, of which approximately 5500 candidates had appeared for the test.
He said the results of the test would be placed on the official website and notice board of the varsity.
He said the second phase of admissions to the university would start after the announcement of HSC results from all the intermediate boards as the tests taken by the varsity only amounted to checking the eligibility criteria of the applicants.
The university had adopted strict security measures to avoid any untoward incident and sitting arrangements were made to facilitate parents and guardians accompanying the students.—PPI
