A resident of Effendi town, Khalid Mehmood, had sent a telegram to the chief justice, Sindh High Court, Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashad, praying for the recovery of his brother-in-law, Mohammed Hamid.

The complainant said that Hamid had been picked up by the police on July 26 and was being held in illegal detention.

The telegram was forwarded to the district and sessions judge, Hyderabad, who appointed Mr Soomro as inquiry officer.

Mr Soomro raided the Phuleli police station and checked the records. It was found that Mohammed Hamid had been arrested in connection with a case lodged under section 18 of the Zina Hudood Ordinance.—BoC
