HYDERABAD, Aug 1: The Sindh minister for education and pro-chancellor, University of Sindh, Khan Mohammad Dahri, has said the government is paying full attention to the education sector and added that teachers and scholars should cooperate in the promotion of education.
He said this during his visit to the Sindh University and at a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Thursday.
He announced that an intermediate college would be established at Sindh University Cooperative Housing Society and the Government Middle School of Sindh University Residential Colony would be looked after by the education department.
The education minister said genuine problems of teachers would be resolved without any delay and any suggestion to improve the quality of education would be welcomed.
He said he was planning to constitute a committee of eminent scholars and educationists to give suggestions for the development of education in Sindh and added that the committee would visit educational institutions of the province from time to time.
The Sindh minister for education said proper attention would be paid to science education and well-equipped laboratories in schools and colleges would be established in rural areas and these would be regularly inspected.
He also filled form of the Sindh University Alumni Association.
SPLA: On the call of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), a protest day was observed on Thursday throughout the province against the attack on a procession of teachers in Lahore and privatization of educational institutions.
Black flags were hoisted on college buildings and protest meetings were held.
The meetings condemned the violence against teachers who were protesting against the privatization of educational institutions.
They termed the privatization process an anti-education step and added that this would increase the cost of education and also render a large number of teachers jobless.
They said 98 per cent of the population was affected due to unemployment and price-hike and now their children were also being deprived of their right to education and health care.
