KARACHI, July 30: Country’s top golfers will compete in the 4th Open Sindh MCB Golf championship 2002 scheduled to be played during Aug 1-4 at the Arabian Sea Country Club.

Organised under the banner of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) will have professionals vying for cash prizes of Rs 300,000

Nearly 60 professionals and amateurs will be representing the 37 PGF affiliated clubs of the country, while five professionals will represent the SGA and another five the host club ASCC.

Imdad Hussain is the defending champion in the professional category, while Shahid Javed Khan will try to retain his title in the amateur category.

In addition to the main event, a junior tournament for young golf enthusiasts under the age of 18 and 15 will be held on Aug 1-2 over 36 holes.

The PGF is striving to promote golf among the younger generation and the junior category event is part of its consistent effort to create interest in golf in the youth of the country.

Another feature of the tournament, will be an invitational golf competition to be played over 18 holes on Sunday, which will be participated by 60 to 70 amateurs. A competition for senior professional with a purse of Rs 15,000 is to be played by 10 to 12 participants.
