ISLAMABAD, July 30: Paknet, a subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, launched the wireless broadband internet service on Tuesday.

As no phone line is required for the use of this technology, it would provide mobility to the user to access the broadband internet from anywhere, says a press release.

Previously, the broadband access in Pakistan was used through wireless radius, digital cross connect and DSL, but this solution of wireless Internet virtually extends the user local area network (LAN) through IP-based solutions to the Internet. All the functions like wireless printing would be possible through this technology.

One of the advantages of this service was the higher speed it can offer to the user, the statement said adding the costumers could be provided with 10Mb of speed.

“The basic system could cover an area of 15 km while the higher systems could extend the coverage range upto 40 km.”

The statement said the wireless service was also cost effective and was expected to become more cheap in the future.

“Through this service, 24/7 connectivity would be possible without any busy tones or disconnections.”
