Sialkot budget passed

SIALKOT, July 30: After three days long protest, boycott and strong criticism by the opposition, the Sialkot district council on Tuesday okayed its tax free and surplus budget of Rs 2,079,000,000 for the fiscal year 2002-2003.

The district government has allocated Rs 800,000 only for the promotion of industrial culture in the export-oriented Sialkot district, besides allocating two per cent of its total budget for the promotion of sport activities in the district.

It would spend Rs 1,491,500,000 on the provision of health and education facilities to the people, Rs 79,900,000 for the development of communication sector, and Rs 26,800,000 on the completion of various industrial and agricultural development projects.
