FAISALABAD, July 30: The parents of a teenaged girl who sustained serious injuries in an acid attack have demanded of the Punjab governor and the IGP to direct the police to arrest the accused.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, Aftab Masih said his daughter Gulnaz, 17, has been working in a public call office in D-Type Colony to supplement the family income. On June 15, one Tariq Salim, along with his accomplices Nasib Ali and Ijaz Ahmad, the owner of PCO, attacked the girl while she was sitting in the PCO because she refused on accede to their foul demand. Tariq threw acid on her and fled from the scene. She was screaming in pain and calling for help but no-one came to her rescue because Nasib and Ijaz were standing outside the PCO.

He said Gulnaz came on road and some passersby took her to a nearby hospital. Doctors on duty refused to provide treatment to her claiming that it was a police case and should be referred to the Allied Hospital, Aftab added.

He said ironically Ijaz registered a case as a complainant and now threatening him with dire consequences as he had refused to accept Rs10,000 from accused Tariq for not pursuing the case.

Aftab said he was a poor labourer and could not pursue the case. He demanded of the governor and the Punjab IGP to help him in getting justice.

Meanwhile, Gulnaz, who sustained burns on her face, chest and arms has been shifted to the eye ward of the Allied Hospital as her right eye has been badly damaged.
