MIANWALI, July 30: District council convener Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi resigned on Tuesday in protest against the conduct of district nazim Iqrar Hussan Shah.

During the last session Niazi had banned the entry of the nazim into the house for two years for creating hurdles in the proceedings of the house.

Before the start of the budget session on Tuesday, Niazi asked Shah to leave the house. In return the leader of house presented a letter from the secretary, Local Government, about the suspension of convener’s order but he rejected it.

Shah tried to sent him out by force but treasury members put their weight behind the nazim.

The convener adjourned the budget session for the next day and left the assembly.

In his absence Syed Iqbal Shah, also on the panel of the chairmen of the house, presided the proceedings and the district Nazim presented budget which was passed by the house.

Convener Niazi told newsmen that the approval of budget was illegal because he had already adjourned the session and in his presence no body could preside the house. In protest he sent his resignation to the LG&RD secretary.
