THATTA, July 30: The Mirpur Bathoro Union Council, through a unanimously passed resolution, criticized the shifting of an elementary college from Mirpur Bathoro town to Makli, Thatta.
The members of the council threatened to observe a hunger strike from Aug 1 if the decision was not withdrawn by the authorities concerned.
The meeting, called on one-point agenda to discuss the shifting of the college, observed that the shifting of college would render irreparable academic loss to students, particularly those belonging to far-flung areas of Thatta and Badin districts.
The college was established in 1961 with the name of the Government Teachers Training College for men and was later upgraded to the Government Elementary College.
One primary school and one elementary school, affiliated with the college, would also be shifted to Makli in the second stage if the college was shifted, the meeting contended.
More over six blocks, including two hostels, one science laboratory and one library, will be ruined if the college was shifted.
Union Council Nazim Mohammad Ali said he would tender his resignation in protest if the decision was not withdrawn.
A six-member committee was constituted to contact the Sindh minister for education on the subject.
