Growers protest

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, July 30: Hundreds of tailend growers from the Musa Allahbad Shakh, Thul Distry, Fasal Shakh, and Anis Mines staged a demonstration against the water shortage during the visit of the secretary, Irrigation, in Thul Town, Jacobabad District, on Monday.

The secretary, Irrigation, Mir Mohammed Panhyar, today visited those waterways from where serious complaints regarding water shortage had been received.

The area people lodged a strong protest and complained that the local Irrigation officials were releasing water to the influential people of the area after taking illegal gratification, while the poor growers were facing serious shortage of water and their crops were likely to be destroyed.

Mr Panhyar assured the protestors that all possible efforts would be taken to provide water to all the growers irrespective of the fact whether they were poor or influential.

He said the water shortage was natural and the desilting work on the distributaries had not been done properly, therefore the flow of water was slow and not reaching the tail-ends.
