KARACHI, July 29: Federal minister for science and technology Dr Atta-ur-Rehman has announced that a development grant of Rs33 million for Karachi University’s Department of Chemistry is under process and the funds are expected to be released in October.

Speaking to students and teachers of the department at the KU campus, the minister said there was a tremendous potential among the people of Pakistan and the only way to make progress in the country was by investing in the human resource development.

He stated that today’s modern and successful economies are knowledge based. Drawing a comparison between Pakistan and Singapore, Dr Atta said both the countries were at the same level about five decades ago but Singapore has gone far ahead today because of its right policies.

He pointed out that the budget of National University of Singapore was dollars 1.3 billion which is more than 100 times that of the biggest university of Pakistan.

The minister highlighted some of the efforts made for improving the situation in Pakistan since he became minister for science and technology.—APP
