RAWALPINDI, July 28: Six people, including a mother and a child, were killed and four others injured in separate incidents in the twin cities on Sunday.

In the first incident, a mother and her son were buried alive while another woman and her two children were injured after the roof of their house collapsed in Golra area during heavy rain on Sunday.

Shireen Bibi, her son Gul Rehman, Asima Bibi and her two children — Sadaruddin and Gulab Bibi — were trapped in the debris. On hearing the sound of the roof collapsing, the people of the area rushed to the site and pulled out the women and children. They were shifted to Pims where Shireen Bibi and her son Gul Rehman were pronounced dead.

“My wife and son have died while the condition of another woman and her son is critical,” Abdul Ghaffar, told Dawn.

DROWNED: Two boys drowned in separate incidents in I-10 sector, police said.

A 10-year-old boy was swept away in a drain in I-10/3 while his brother was rescued.

Saleem and Sarwar were passing through a dried drain when all of a sudden it was filled with rain water which swept them away. On hearing the screams of the boys, some passers-by rushed to their rescue, but could only manage to save Saleem, police and witnesses said.

Till the filing of this report, the divers had not found the body of Sarwar.

Meanwhile, Iftikhar Gul, 15, a resident of I-10/1, drowned in a drain where he was bathing.

SUICIDE: A retired employee of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited committed suicide by shooting himself in Rawat on Sunday.

Mohammad Aslam had retired 18 months ago, but had not received his dues, Iftikhar Ahmad, the son of the deceased, said.

“Some two months ago, the department also stopped my father’s pension which added to his worries,” Iftikhar said.

He said on Sunday morning, he heard a gunshot from his father’s room. When he rushed to the room, he found his father lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to the DHQ hospital where he died.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man, who appeared to be in his 50s, was run over by a passenger train near Mareer railway crossing on Sunday.

The body was shifted to the DHQ hospital for the postmortem.
