LAHORE, July 28: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood will present a Rs4.85 billion City District Government Budget for the year 2002-3 before the Lahore District Council on Tuesday (tomorrow).

The Nazim will propose allocation of 80 per cent funds for the promotion of education and handing over of sanitation responsibilities to the union councils at the budget session to be presided over by Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir. The LDC has already approved the transfer of sanitation responsibilities to the UCs along with the powers to collect the sanitation tax.

The Nazim will propose abolition of 25 posts of officers in the District Coordination Office and other offices for reduction in non-development expenditure and transfer of the staff of the defunct Lahore Division Commissioner Office against vacancies in different towns.

He will propose the transfer of 25 per cent income of the Kot Kamboh Bakar Mandi to the Allama Iqbal Town and equal distribution of the remaining 75 per cent income in the remaining five towns. The slaughter house income has been transferred to the Allama Iqbal Town already.

Meanwhile, the City District Government has acquired 700 kanals of land at Shahpur Kanjran on Multan Road for the construction of a new slaughter house of the international standard. Space will also be provided for a new bakkar mandi near the slaughter house.

The District Nazim has inspected the site acquired under a directive of Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbul and directed the officials concerned to start preparations for the construction of the slaughter house.
