FAISALABAD, July 28: The district police claimed to have registered 7,600 cases of various crimes in the first six months of the current year.

Dawn learnt on Sunday the police record showed an increase of 768 cases as compared to those registered last year.

According to the statistics, at least 201 cases of murder have been registered from Jan 1 to June 30 this year as compared to 180 cases last year. This year, the police claimed to have registered 213 cases against vehicle lifters as compared to 145 registered last year.

The trend of buying stolen articles has picked up in the district as the police have registered this year 377 cases under section 411 PPC. Last year, the police had registered 255 cases for buying stolen articles.

The police have registered 68 cases of gambling this year against the 33 last year. Some 26 cases of assault on police were registered this year while the figure was 15 last year.

The first six month’s record shows 176 cases of attempted murder, 389 of injuring, seven of assaults, 40 of rape, 33 of kidnapping, 107 of kidnapping for rape, two of kidnapping for ransom, 85 of fatal accidents, seven of escaping from the police custody, 17 of dacoities, 213 of robberies, 29 of murder-cum-theft, 198 of burglaries, 457 of ordinary thefts, 204 of theft of cattle, 1,604 of prohibition orders, 1,693 under arms ordinance, a Qazaf case and 1,426 of miscellaneous crimes.
