KARACHI, July 27: An intriguing card of seven races has been drawn for the Karachi Summer Meeting which will be held at the local turf today (Sunday). The first race will begin at 2 pm.

The day’s racing should be enjoyable as there are more than two chance horses in majority of the events which should provide close finish provided the people sitting in the glass house manage to control the proceedings strictly.

Many owners and trainers complained about the sanitary condition prevailing at the Race Course. They complained that because of the murky weather persisting in the City flies have invaded the race course which is spreading different kind of diseases among the animals. Almost every day horses are suffering from colic attack.

The club administration perhaps thinks that animals do not need sanitation.

They must keep in mind that like sportsmen who are very delicate, racing horses too need careful handling and surrounding conditions play very important role in their performance.

Most of the stable gutters are choked and there is hardly any proper drainage system functioning at the race course which has human and animal population of around 5000. They need better deal.

Now reverting to the day’s racing, in the opener Sunday Silence Pretty Samrah and Glamour Girl and The Messenger draw attention.

Pretty Samrah has come down in the lowest division so I do not see any reason why she should not have the better of Glamour Girl and Sunday Silence who will be carrying a heavy impost of 9-4. The Messenger can provide the element of surprise.

Gharnata, Sher Khan, Royal Beauty and Lucky Love are the form horses in the second race. Royal Beauty on her last facile win should win hands down. Others should fight for less remunerative berths.

In the third race Raysham, Sone Pari, Winning Streak are the form horses. Sone Pari and Raysham when met last time on level terms the latter had a narrow edge.

On that run they should once again battle for top honours with Sone Pari having three pound advantage get the better. Winning Streak can upset calculations.

Just In Fun, Fiza, Much Better and Neeli Nighahain are the form horses in the fourth race. Fiza had recorded a popular win last time out.

On that run I would like her to make it two in a row as Just In Fun’s last run was disappointing. Much Better and Neeli Nighahain should fight for lower berth.

In the fifth race, Jack Pot, Kieve, Touch Of Joy catch the eye most. The former had won a comfortable race last time out. On that I would like him to take a lot of beating.

Royal Falcon, Knight Fighter, Sligna, Champion Lady and Lovers Line are the pick in the sixth race. Royal Falcon’s run last Sunday behind Show Time was too good. With that run in mind I do not see any danger for him and is my best bet of the day.

Knight Fighter, Champion Lady and Sligna should measure their strength for lower berths. Lover’s Line with the blessings of the stable can squeeze in but will find Royal Falcon hard nut to crack.

In the concluding event of the day, Ray Of Light, Deniro, Donatello and Gissele are the pick. Deniro’s last run was too impressive therefore gets the vote. Donatello is the next best on his last weeks run.
