GILGIT, July 26: The European Commission has chalked a 10-year health plan for the Northern Areas that will encompass training of doctors and paramedics on modern lines under the health information management system.

This was stated on Thursday by health officials at a workshop on ‘Situational Analysis of Health in Northern Areas’, organized by the European Union and Northern Areas health department.

The plan aimed at providing optimum health facilities in the five districts of Northern Areas. Information and data on health situation in the region would be collected by developing link with the local NGOs and health experts, the speakers said.

They also told the audience that the government had allocated, under the public sector development programme (PSDP), over Rs215.813 million for the region’s health sector, including Rs22.816m for Gilgit District, Rs18.449m for Skardu, Rs49.117m for Diamer, Rs28.295m for Ghizer and Rs23.506m for Gangche.

Later, local doctors also spoke on the occasion.
