RAWALPINDI, July 25: The president of Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal (MMA), Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani, on Thursday said, if voted to power, they would implement Islamic Sharaiat in the country.

He was speaking at the party’s Ulema and Workers’ Convention held at the Rawalpindi Islamabad Press Club. More than 1,000 people attended the convention. The party leaders, including Maulana Samiul Haq, Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Hussain and Sajid Naqvi, spoke to the participants.

Mr Noorani said his party was not interested in coming to power, but it wanted to implement an Islamic system in the country. He said they also wanted to forge unity among the nation’s ranks.

He said the United States had entered Afghanistan for vested interests by labelling Talliban as terrorists. On the other hand, the so called champion of democracy (US) was ignoring the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Palestine by Israel.

The MMA leader condemned the government’s move of registering Madaris, claiming that it was following the dictates of the US.

He maintained that Madaris had been a ray of light for the Muslim throughout the history, adding that the so called war against terror was a crusade against Islam and Muslims.

Maulana Samiul Haq, speaking on the occasion, said American secret agencies had focused on the nuclear capabilities of Pakistan, while the government was busy providing full support to them.

He said it was against the country’s sovereignty to allow the US to use our land for hunting down their enemies, while history showed that they (Americas) had never fulfilled their promises to Pakistan.

Hafiz Hussain said it was a matter of great happiness that all the religious parties had chosen one platform for carrying out election campaign. He stressed the need for the unity of the Muslim world for fighting the conspiracies of the West and America.
