Tribesmen demand vote right in polls

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 25: The Tribal Political Alliance(TPA) has asked the government to facilitate the residents of Federally-Administered Tribal Areas to exercise their right of franchise in the next general election.

The TPA, a conglomerates of both factions of the PPP and the PML, ANP, NAPP and Tribal Jamhoori Party, had also welcomed the Local Bodies Ordinance and asked the government to implement reforms in Fata.

After all parties meeting here at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, TPA leader Rehmat Shah Afridi said the tribal people had been demanding for many years for the replacement of the present administrative system with a just order in Fata.

He asked the government to allow the major political parties to extend the scope of their political activities up to Fata.

He said they had changed the name of Khyber Political Alliance with the TPA and extended its scope from Bajaur Agency to South Waziristan Agency. Mr Afridi demanded of the government to replace the status of the political agent with the agency coordinating officer (ACO) as suggested in the Fata reforms.
