FAISALABAD, July 24: Anwar Bibi, who was arrested on Tuesday on charges of threatening a civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate and his staff with dire consequences and pelting stones at the courtroom, denied all allegations and claimed that she was tortured and implicated in the case.
A mother of five daughters and three sons, Anwar Bibi told this correspondent on Wednesday that the influential landlords of the area had been torturing her family besides implicating them in false cases with the connivance of the police.
She said her son Ghulam Abbas, 16, was kidnapped by Gogi Wattoo, one of the influential landlords of the area. Gogi and his accomplices kept Ghulam Abbas in illegal detention for over one year and a half and repeatedly sodomized him.
Area police refused to register a case, Anwar Bibi said, and added that she succeeded in recovering her son and got registered a case against the accused by approaching senior police officers.
The accused pressurized her to strike a deal through panchayat, conducted by another influential landlord Zahoor Shah, who favoured the accused. When she refused to accept the decision of the panchayat, Gogi got her and other family members implicated in a theft case.
The accused attacked and injured her when she refused to withdraw the kidnap case.
She got registered a case against Gogi and his accomplices — Saifullah and Israr Shah — but police did not arrest the accused.
The case registered against Gogi and his accomplices had been pending in the court of civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate Riaz Bhatti for the last one year.
She said on Tuesday, her counsel did not appear before the court because she paid only Rs300 to him as fee. Consequently she herself had to oppose the bail plea. When the judge went to his retiring room, the relatives of the accused dragged her out of the courtroom and thrashed her. She made hue and cry but nobody came to her rescue. Instead she was implicated in a case of threatening the judge and his staff with dire consequences and sent to jail.
She said she only abused the accused and his relatives who were torturing her. She claimed that there were about a dozen torture marks on various parts of her body. But she had been booked on charges of threatening the civil judge.
She appealed to the chief justice of the Lahore High Court, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and NGOs to come to her rescue.
Tandlianwala police had on Tuesday arrested Anwar Bibi for threatening a civil judge and his staff with dire consequences and pelting stones at the courtroom.
