ISLAMABAD, July 24: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) on Wednesday decided to hold elections for its central offices, including the president, on Aug 2.

The decision was taken at a meeting of party’s central executive committee presided over by PML(QA) President Mian Mohammad Azhar.

Mian Azhar, in a statement at the meeting, announced the decision of holding the elections as per the provision of Political Parties Act and also made public his intention to contest.

A spokesman later at a news briefing said the party had appointed Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as the chief election commissioner. Syed Fakhar Imam, Justice Azam and Fazal Agha are the members of the commission, while a member from Sindh will be nominated later.

The name of Fiza Junejo as member from Sindh was under consideration but the decision would be taken later by Shujaat Hussain, the spokesman said.

Through resolutions adopted at the meeting, the party demanded early announcement of election schedule, allocation of five percent seats for minorities and introduction of technocrats seats in Senate instead of the National Assembly.
