Johar’s 159 goes in vain

ISLAMABAD, July 22: Galaxy and Diamond set up a clash in the final of the Islamabad Cricket Association Under-19 championship Monday after scoring resounding victories over their semifinal opponents.

Galaxy toppled favourites Asif Memorial by seven wickets while Diamond handed a six-wicket defeat to Model Town Gymkhana.

Johar Ali’s blazing 159 in Asif Memorial’s total of 222 went in vain as Galaxy collected the required runs for the loss of three wickets, thanks to an unbeaten 113 by Shahid Mehmood. In the bowling department, Naved Bhatti performed a hat-trick for the winners.

A fine knock of 75 by Sajid Ali was the highlight of the second semifinal as Diamond overhauled Model Town Gymkhana’s 205, losing four wickets.

The final of the championship is to be played Wednesday at the Diamond Ground.

Diamond bt Model Town Gymkhana by six wickets: Model Town Gymkhana 205 in 49.3 overs (Bilal Ghufran 45, Rana Ijaz 3-31, Tahir Manzoor 3-37, Riaz Afridi 2-32); Diamond 206 for four in 32.1 overs (Sajid Ali 75, Noman Sadiq 40, Bilal Ghufran 2-51).
