Well-backed Arooj defeats Crysler by four lengths

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, July 21: The chestnut mare Arooj, piloted by jockey Aamar Parvez, strode to an easy success in the supporting event of the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Sunday.

Arooj was backed by connections at 60 to 100 favourite and she justified the confidence reposed in her by defeating the chestnut gelding Crysler by four lengths in the fourth race ran over 900 metres.

Midway through the race, Crysler was leading by a comfortable margin and Arooj was running third. But as soon as heads turned for the straight, Aamar Parvez charged his mount who shot into the lead and maintained supremacy till the finishing post.

Crysler buckled under pressure to concede victory. The bay filly Lucky Credit Queen and the grey colt Al Zarrar finished third and fourth respectively among ten runners.

This was Arooj’s second successive victory. The change of her ownership appears to have changed fortunes for both.

The bay filly Gambling Girl outclassed a small field of her five rivals to record win in the feature event.

She beat Half Love by two lengths with Polo Gambler third, a distance behind while Think Thank completed the frame, about four lengths further back.

Long shot chestnut colt Golden Wings sprang a surprise in the second race. He defeated grey mare Silk Route by half-a-length in a close finish.
