PML leaders approach Nawaz

Published July 21, 2002

LAHORE, July 20: PML(N) leaders are approaching Mian Nawaz Sharif in Jeddah to seek his instructions about his successor as party president.

Mr Sharif, being a convict, cannot lead the party under the Political Parties Order.

Some party sources say that Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif is being considered for the job. But important party leaders say that her election as party chief would make little difference unless she returned to the country.

In effect, the sources said, Raja Zafarul Haq being the chairman of the party would be calling the shots.
