Wajid too powerful for Waqas


PESHAWAR, July 19: National champion Wajid Ali lifted the glittering trophy of All-Pakistan Minister Sports Cup badminton trophy after defeating second seeded Waqas in the final played at Qazi Naseem Badminton Hall Friday.

The battle for the crown which Wajid won by 15-10 and 15-5, lasted for 45 minutes.

Tournament was organized by the NWFP Sports Directorate with the collaboration of District Badminton Association, which was played in two rounds.

Top ranking players from all over the country took part in the tournament.

In the doubles final Noman Sikandar and Imran Mohib of New Khan Road Runners defeated their tea-mates Waqas and Ahsan Qamar 15-8, 15-12.

Malik Khushal Memorial round: Zaheer-ud-din (Abbottabad) bt Kamran Fareed (Haripur) 15-12,15-10. Aftab Rehmani, Amanullah bt Zaheer-ud-din, Bilal 15-6, 15-8.

Veterans Doubles: Aftab Rehmani, Tariq Mehmood bt Waseem Sheikh, Jamil Khan 15-8, 15-6.—APP
