LAHORE, July 19: Pakistans top tennis star, Aisam Qureshi started his campaign in the Manchester Trophy in style defeating Zimbabwe’s Wayne Black 6-1, 7-6,(13/11), 6-1, according to a fax message received Friday from England.
Aisam’s supremacy was never in doubt at grass courts of Northern Tennis Club of Manchester and he displayed an excellent form and style of serve and volley.
Aisam played in lethal manner from the very beginning of the match and hit winners after winner whenever it come to the rallies, and his own serves the sent plenty of aces across the net and won the first set in 25 minutes.
Wayne posed much more resistance during the second set, At 5-3, when Aisam was serving for the set and the match, Wayne played his best game of the match and returned the ball with precision and power to break back.
At 6-6 when tie break was played, eventually Wayne was lucky to get a couple of net cards and won the second set.
Without getting affected by it, Aisam kept on playing at his own momentum and dictated the terms of proceedings during the third set as well in the same manner and style as in the first one.
He disposed off the Zimbabwean in the third set with a score in 23 minutes. Aisam hit 10 aces in the match.
Next he will face the Frenchman Jean Francois Bachelot, who played the Wimbledon main round this year.
In the doubles, later in the day, Aisam and partner Karol Beck defeated Tom Pocock and Robert Searle of Great Britain after a three set marathon 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4. In the quarterfinal they will face Franco-American pair of Doug Bohaboy and Benjami Cassigne.—APP
