SHEIKHUPURA, July 19: A prisoner at the district jail on Friday jumped into a tandoor to escape administration’s ‘excesses.’

Khalid was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

A relative of Khalid told newsmen he had sustained serious burn injuries and his survival was impossible. He claimed Khalid attempted suicide due to the maltreatment of the jail administration.

He demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.

DEATH SENTENCE: Local District and Sessions Judge Shaukat Ali on Friday awarded death sentence to a convict in a murder case. Abid Akram of Civil Lines had sometime back killed his wife over a dispute. Later, he tried to commit suicide.
