QUETTA, July 19: The Balochistan government would spend Rs250 million on the expansion and improvement of jails in the province under an access-to-justice programme.

Four new jails would be constructed in Loralai, Nushki, Chaman and Dera Allahyar with modern facilities.

These decisions were taken at a meeting, held here on Friday, with Governor Justice Amirul Mulk Mengal in the chair.

The meeting decided that two jails would be built in Loralai and Dera Allahyar, while in Khuzdar and Gaddani jails, 20 death cells and gallows would be constructed. Besides, five new barracks would be built in the Central Jail, Mach, and one in the Quetta Jail.

Officials informed the meeting that residential facilities would be provided to the Gaddani jail staff.

The governor directed the authorities to launch construction work on the projects as soon as possible, and improve the jail conditions. He also asked the officials to provide all necessary facilities to the prisoners.
