KARACHI, July 19: The investigation branch of Karachi police claimed on Friday that Mohammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori who is ex-chief of banned outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi has confessed his involvement in 25 different cases of sectarian and targeted killings in Karachi.
According to investigation branch, he was arrested on June 29, from Defence, and was involved in killing more than 40 persons and injuring more than 50 people in different acts of sectarian and targeted killings during the last 12 months.
In his confessional statement, he stated that he was born in Digri city of Mirpurkhas district. He is 29-year- old. He joined Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan during his student life and started activities against Shia sect of Muslim community, police claimed.
Later, he along with Malik Ishaq and Riaz Basra, laid foundation of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi. In order to widen his network to Punjab and other cities of the country, he has set up terrorist training camps in Afghanistan which was also used as hideouts by active members of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi when needed.
In his 12-year criminal carrier, he was never arrested despite the fact that the law-enforcement agencies had been searching him and the Government of Punjab had announced his head-money.
Investigation department claimed that Lahori in his confessional statement said he was directly involved in 30 cases of killings in Punjab while in Sindh he had monitored and masterminded plan of killing 40 eminent figures of the community.
Among his victims included MD PSO Shaukat Mirza Ehteshamuddin Haider, firing on Imambargah Mehmoodabad, Zafar Mehdi Zaidi (Principal Jamia Millia College) and his son, Doctor Al-e-Safdar Zaidi of Kidney Centre, Karachi, Anwer Ali Tirmizi and Zulfiqar Haider (license holders of main mourning Moharrum procession) and others.
He was arrested alongwith his four fellows Mohammad Anwer alias Usman Baloch, Mohammad Azam alias Shaikh, Tasudduq Hussain alias Sharif and Attaullah alias Qasim. Police also recovered two KK, three pistols and three motorcycles which were used by them in different criminal activities.
Police also released list of FIRs lodged against these accused in different police stations in Karachi.—PPI
