SANGHAR, July 17: A teacher of Madressah , Maulvi Shafi Mohammad, was booked following the recovery of two of his young pupils, Sarfaraz, son of Ubaidullah, and Mohammed Tayyab, son of Abdul Jabbar, who were found tied with a chain.
Both the children, aged about eight, told the police that their teacher had tied them with the chain because they used to flee from the Madressah.
They said that their parents had lodged them in the Madressah to learn the Holy Quran but the Maulvi was so harsh to his pupils and used to beat them up severely on mistakes. To escape his punishment, they added, they had fled twice before but their parents brought them back to the Madressah.
The children said that to prevent their repeated escapes, the Maulvi had tied them with a chain. The other end of the chain was fastened to a pillar at the Madressah, they added.
The pupils revealed that on Tuesday night, they managed to unlock themselves when all the other students were asleep and the Maulvi was away. However, they could not get rid of the chain which still tied one leg each of the two pupils.
They were caught by the Khipro police the next day while passing through the cotton fields on their way to a ‘safe heaven’.
The SHO of Khipro police station said that a case under section 341/342 has been registered against the Maulvi but he had not been arrested.
