Railways cop shot dead

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, July 17: Dacoits snatched Rs2.6 million on Wednesday from the railways officials carrying salaries in the Karachi-bound Bolan Mail and killed a police constable on resistance.

The incident took place between Sariab and Spezand railway stations, some 20km from the Quetta Railway Station.

Police sources said the officials were carrying cash for the payment of salary to the railways staff posted at Sibi and Mach in Bolan.

When the train reached between Sariab and Spezand, five masked men carrying automatic weapons entered the compartment in which the staff was travelling and snatched the money at gun point. They also killed Railways Police Guard Abdul Ghani on resistance and fled.

An eyewitness said the robbers had escaped in a vehicle travelling at Quetta-Sibi national highway.
