Meeting with MMA on 22nd
ISLAMABAD July 17: The chiefs of the alliance of six religo-political parties, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), have decided to accept President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s invitation for a consultative meeting on July 22.
To be led by Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, the MMA team is likely to comprise Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed, head of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rahman, chief of his own faction of JUI Maulana Samiul Haq, Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadith leader Prof Sajid Meer and Millat-i-Jaferia head Pakistan Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi.
Liaquat Baloch, deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, who also heads the election committee of the MMA, told Dawn on Wednesday that though the alliance was not much optimistic about the acceptance of its point of view yet it had decided to meet the president this time to apprise him of its opinion on various national issues.
When asked about the agenda of the talks with the president, Baloch said, “The alliance leaders have been invited to discuss with the president the proposed constitutional package, the Political Parties Act and matters relating to the Oct 10 polls.”
