KARACHI: Pre-poll transfer of officials begins

KARACHI, July 17: The effort to figure out strength of politicians, parties and their grading in Sindh has now entered the bureaucratic circle as the provincial government has started reshuffling of bureaucrats, bringing forward the “like-minded” figures.

To achieve the desired results, District Coordination Officers (DCOs) of five crucial districts, being considered as stronghold of the PPP, have been changed.

The services and general administration and coordination department of the Sindh Government has notified transfer of the DCOs of districts Hyderabad, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu and Badin — All having PPP-backed district Nazims.

All the transferred DCOs had earlier been posted in these districts either through recommendation of the concerned district Nazims or with their consent.

According to an announcement, Mohammad Hashim Leghari, DCO Larkana, has been transferred and in his place EDO (finance), Larkana, Noor Ali Khan, has been posted as new DCO. Mr Leghari has been asked to report to the services & general administration and coordination department.

Larkana is a native district of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, where PPP had won the local bodies elections. At present, the PPP-backed district Nazim, Khursheed Junejo, who also served as a special assistant to Ms Bhutto during her premiership, and Naib Nazim Nazir Bughio, a former PPP MPA, are there.

Similarly, DCO Dadu, Mohammad Qasim Leghari, has been transferred and posted as member (judicial), Board of Revenue, while Abdul Razzak Abbasi, EDO (community development department), Sanghar, has been posted as new DCO.

Dadu is also considered as a PPP stronghold. Though, PPP candidate had lost the district Nazim election, but the incumbent Nazim, Malik Assad Sikandar who had won the seat as an independent candidate has recently joined the PPP.

Amir Ali Behan, EDO (community development department), Hyderabad, has been transferred and posted as DCO, Badin, relieving Mohammad Ehsan of additional charge. The district is also a stronghold of the PPP, where a PPP leader Kamal Chang was elected as District Nazim.

Similarity, DCO Hyderabad, Mushtaq Ali Memon, has been transferred and directed to report to the SGA&C department for next posting. Makhdoom Rafiquz Zaman, brother of PPP vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim, is the district Nazim. — PPI
