Last-ball defeat for PTV


KARACHI, July 16: Opener Imran Farooqi hit a patient match winning 75 to put The News in the semifinal of second NBP Inter-media cricket tournament with a thrilling last-ball victory over PTV at NBP Sports Complex Ground Tuesday.

PTV mustered a respectable 211 for three in their 25 overs with M. Bilal hitting five fours and a six in his 47 not out. The News in reply reached target on the last ball with two wickets to spare.

Opener Khalid Hussain and Imran gave The News whirlwind start of 50 in the first six overs. Khalid hit five boundaries in his rapid 26 before departing.

Imran held the innings together, striking ten boundaries and two sixes after facing 75 balls to set-up victory.

Earlier in the first match, holder Daily Jang inflicted a comprehensive 84 runs defeat on Daily Amn. Muhammad Saleem slammed a fine 69 with four boundaries and a six to take the man of the match award.

Jang collected 187 for six in their 25 overs. Amn batting in response crumbled for 103 in 23rd over. Five of Amn batsmen were run out.

Jang bt Amn by 84 runs. Jang 187-6 in 25 overs (Muhammad Saleem 69, Muhammad Faheem 36, Shahid Ansari 2-26); Amn 103 all out in 22.5 overs (Imran Ahmed 35, Amjad Ali 2-14).
