KARACHI: 48 suspected criminals arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 16: Police remained on full alert on the second consecutive day on Tuesday and arrested 48 suspects for their involvement in different criminal activities.

The police were put on the alert on Monday to maintain law and order in the city as there were apprehensions of a backlash after the judgment by an anti-terrorism court in Hyderabad, awarding death to Ahmed Omar Saeed Shaikh and life terms to his three accomplices in the murder case of US journalist Daniel Pearl.

A spokesman for the police said those picked up included Mohammad Iqbal, arrested in Nazimabad for possessing Jihadi literature under the relevant section of law.

However, the spokesman declined to spell out the “relevant section”.

The police said they had recovered two pistols, two revolvers, five grams of heroin powder, 75 grams of charas, two daggers, three bottles of liquor, two stolen computers and Jihadi literature from the suspects.

Besides, 43 suspects had been picked up on Monday on different charges in various parts of the city.

The police also picked up 38 more suspects on Monday.
