Haque’s century saves Bangladesh


COLOMBO, July 15: Ehsanul Haque hit a stylish unbeaten century as the touring Bangladesh team forced a draw to their three-day cricket fixture against Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Moratuwa Stadium.

Haque scored exactly one hundred not out as Bangladesh finished their second innings at 201 for five after they were set a victory target of 323 runs.

He settled down to play a long innings and occupied the crease for 198 minutes stroking fifteen boundaries. He was also associated in a fourth wicket stand of 72 runs with Habibul Bashar.

Earlier Sri Lanka ‘A’ closed their second innings at 168 for sevem after resuming from their overnight 73 for three. They suffered an early setback losing Ian Daniel after adding just two runs to their overnight score.

However skipper Prasanna Jayawardena held the middle order together with a determined knock of 49 and received good support from all rounder Muthumudalige Pushpakumara.

Pacers Munjural Islam and Alamgir Kabir put the brakes on the scoring rate with accurate bowling.—PPI
