KARACHI: Sharea Faisal remains without power

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 15: Streetlights along Sharea Faisal remained off as it drizzled on Sunday night.

Recently the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation assumed the mantle of switching on and switching off the streetlights of the city.

Meanwhile, many areas remained without electricity on Monday.

Haider Ali, a resident of Garden East off Britto Road, told Dawn at 9pm that his locality had been without electricity since noon. “This cannot be loadshedding because it is not supposed to last that long. I have been trying to call our regional complaint centre at 9215200 since noon but nobody has answered the phone.”

A resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block 16, told Dawn there had been fluctuations in power in his locality which, he added, was very bad for electronic equipment.

A resident of North Nazimabad, Block L, complained about a power breakdown as a result of tripping in a high-tension wire.

Wasif Ahmed, a resident of New Karachi, said his locality experienced power shutdowns almost every day at around 1pm.

A resident of Dhoraji said the previous night they had experienced a power shutdown from 10pm to 1am.

“We tried to contact the complaint centre of our area, but telephones at the complaint centre were either busy all the time or were not answered,” he said.

A resident of Federal B Area, Block 17, said that his locality still experienced prolonged power breakdowns.

“Since the advent of summer, the KESC has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to our area. Everyday we spend three to four hours without electricity.

Calling from Buffer Zone, Aslam said his locality had plunged into darkness the moment it looked that it would rain. “The irony is that it did not drizzle as much as it did in other areas. But our locality suffered a prolonged power breakdown for no rhyme or reason.”

Residents of Jam Goth, Memon Goth, Old Thanna Village, Biroo Village and Haji Dad Mohammad said they remained without electricity several hours and the power which was switched off at 10pm on Sunday was restored at 11am on Monday morning.
