Stalwarts out, new faces in

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, July 14: The eligibility bar has forced political stalwarts out and new faces in for contesting the general elections.

Dawn learnt on Sunday almost all the major parties had been in a fix to select candidates.

The Supreme Court’s verdict of upholding graduation condition has forced over a dozen stalwarts out of contest. They include PML(N) former MNA Dilawar Khan Khichi, PPP’s ex-MPAs Tochi Khan, Sikandar Daultana, Zargham Khakwani and Social action board ex-chairman Shahida Daultana, daughter of former Punjab chief minister Mian Mumtaz Daultana.

Meanwhile, the PML(N) has issued a list of candidates for national and provincial assembly seats. PML(N) vice-president will contest from two national assembly and one provincial assembly seats in Vehari.

Other parties PPP, PML(Q) MMA, PTI, and PAT are awaiting suitable candidates for the elections.

Sources said some union council Nazimeen and their deputies might contest the elections after resigning from current offices.
