QUETTA, July 14: A former vice chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Balochistan Chapter, Dr Amiruddin was killed in a road accident here on Sunday.

Reports said he was returning from Quetta airport after dropping his wife, who was leaving for Karachi. When he reached on main Quetta- Chaman highway, his car collided with an electric pole, resulting in seriously injuries to him.

People rushed to the accident site and took him to the civil hospital, where he died before getting any medical treatment.

The body of Dr Sahib was sent to Karachi late in the evening. Dr Amiruddin was a prominent educationist and served in Balochistan in various top positions. He resigned from government service in the mid-80s owing to his differences with the then woman education minister.

Later he joined the Helper high school and college in Quetta as its principal and served till last year. He was forcibly retired by the college administration on the advice of the government as he spoke for the restoration of democracy in a live TV programme.

Dr Amiruddin was a very active member of the HRCP and had also remained vice chairperson of its Balochistan chapter. He was running a new school in Quetta these days.

BURIAL: Dr Syed Amiruddin will be buried in Karachi on Monday. His funeral procession will be taken out from his residence: 951, Block 2, Azizabad, near police station, after Zuhar prayer.
