KARACHI: Water shortage persists in many areas

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 14: Acute water shortage continued to persist in several parts of the city for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday.

The hard-hit areas include Orangi’s sector 11 1/2, Baloch Colony, Mohammadi Colony, Aziz Nagar, Nishan-i-Haider Chowk, North Karachi’s 11-C-One, Buffer Zone’s sector 5-C, parts of Keamari, Clifton’s Block 2, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Lines Area’s Gulshan-i-Zahoor and Lyari’s tail-end localities.

Residents of the affected localities said although water scarcity problem had been occurring off and on in their localities since the advent of summer season, the KWSB officials have not yet been able to resolve the lingering issue on a permanent basis.

They said that since their localities are mostly inhabited by low-income group they cannot afford to buy private water tankers and have to consume sub-soil unhygienic water.

Accusing the KWSB staff of creating artificial water shortage, they said there would not be any water shortage if the valvemen ensured equitable distribution of water.
