MULTAN, July 13: The Jatoi police on Saturday produced all the accused in the Meerwala gang-rape incident before the area magistrate at the end of their physical remand.
The magistrate sent the accused to Muzaffargarh jail on a 14- day judicial remand after the police said it had completed their interrogation.
A source at the Jatoi police station said challan against the accused was being prepared under section 10-7/79 of Islamic laws and 354-A and 109 of the PPC.
The Dera Ghazi Khan range DIG said the challan would be submitted to the special court working under ATA-97 before the next hearing in the supreme court suo motu proceedings on July 18.
On Saturday Punnu was arrested from Jatoi, another accused in the sodomy case lodged by 12-year-old Shakoor (a brother of the gang-rape victim) against Jameel, Punnu and Manzoor.
Jameel is already in custody; Manzoor is still at large.
GOVERNOR’S VISIT: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool visited Meerwala on Saturday evening and assured the rape victim that culprits would be awarded exemplary punishment so that no one could dare commit such a heinous crime in future.
The victim’s family reportedly handed the governor a list of 13 people from the Mastoi clan who were threatening them with dire consequences if they did not stop pursuing the case. The governor assured the family of full security.
