The Speed Star best bet for today
KARACHI, July 13: An interesting card of seven races has been drawn for the Karachi Gymkhana races to be held Sunday.
The day’s card should provide good competition unless the stable connections and the club management think and act otherwise. With slight discipline, the day’s sport would provide thrill and excitement.
In the first race Speed Fire, The Messenger, and Money Make Music catch the eye most but the former being more consistent gets my vote. The Messenger and Money Make Music should fight for lower berths. Royal Beauty on handicap is quite capable of upsetting my calculations.
In the second race, Striker, Lucky Lover, Sher Khan and Darbari Malang are the pick. Lucky Lover in his last two starts was beaten close home. With those runs in mind I would like him to take a lot of beating.
Much Better, Jango and Abr-e-Noor are the form animals in the third race. Only last week Much Better showed return of form by finishing second behind Neeli Nigahain. That run was good enough. If Much Better repeats that run will have no difficulty in humbling the lot. Abr-e-Noor, however, will be a safe each way bet.
In the fourth race Just In Fun, Kiev, Neeli Nigahain are the form animals. Neeli Nigahain and Just In Fun are front runners whereas Kiev is more game therefore should prevail over others. Simple Prayer can provide the element of surprise as last time out he was not allowed to run on merit in any part of the race and yet came from way behind to complete the frame.
Mark and Black Champion should measure their strength in the fifth race. Mark is the form horse therefore will be the public fancy.
The sixth race of the day will be the most interesting as no less than five horses on their form and blood line come into reckoning. Guarantee, Show Time, Champion Lady and Maha Sagar are the form horses whereas Sarazen and My Darling have top class blood line.
Champion Lady and Maha Sagar once again fight out the issue. In their previous outing Champion Lady had won with a four pound advantage whereas today they will be going level in weight which should help Champion Lady to confirm her superiority though Maha Sagar of late has shown tremendous improvement.
In the concluding event of the day Lucky Three and The Speed Star should engage themselves in a battle royal but I would put my shirt on The Speed Star who is a different breed. The Cleopatra and Ever Shine should fight for less remunerative berths.
