LARKANA, July 10: A gang of ten armed bandits overpowered around 50 people sitting at a roadside hotel in Warah town, and deprived them of their valuables. They also stole TVs and VCRs from two hotels and escaped with all the booty on late Tuesday night.
When they first started firing in the air, the power supply was cut off as several bullets hit the cables supplying power to the town.
By the time the DSP and police arrived, it was too late as the bandits had already fled.
Protesting over the incident and the inefficiency of the Warah police, Manzoor Chandio, Nazim, Union Council Warah, Maulvi Siddique Mangnijo, president, Shehri Ittehad, and Dr Arbab Khuhawar among many others demanded the recovery and arrest of the culprits within four days.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Warah, they said the incident pointed towards the fragile situation of law and order in the town.
They demanded the arrests of the bandits as well as those who backed such criminals. They also demanded increasing the number of police personnel at the Warah police station.
JSQM ACTIVISTS: The Waleed and Market police stations seeking a 14-day remand sent 21 activists of the Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM) to the central prison, Larkana, under judicial custody on Wednesday.
They were arrested in the wake of the JSQM sit-in on July 7 against the construction of the Thal canal and the arrest of Bashir Khan Qureshi in Larkana.
The Waleed police station under section 337A-2, 341, and 353 had picked eight workers including Jamil Shaikh Rashid Abro, M. Saleem Mangi, Ahmed Hassan Jamali, Lal Bakhsh Gopang, Jamil Gabol, Mehrab Chandio, Jaffer, Liaquat Leghari, Mazhar Sethar, Ayub Lashari, Fahim Khokhar, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio, and Fayaz Khamisani, sought their remand from the fourth judicial magistrate, and sent them to the central prison.
The SHO, Market police station, lodged FIRs against 50 people under section 147, 148, 149, 353, and 427.
He obtained a 14-day remand for Tarique Chandio, Shabbir Panhwar, Sarang Chandio, Umid Ali Siyanch, M. Akram Bhatti, Saeed Ahmed Solangi, Ayaz Hussain Solangi, and Asghar Ali Mughiri from the third judicial magistrate and sent them to jail.
The jail superintendent confirmed the arrival of 21 activists of the JSQM in the jail on Wednesday.
