By Our Correspondent

DADU, July 7: A villager, Nazar Mohammed Birhamani, who was injured critically as a result of police torture in Johi town on Saturday, was handed over to his relatives in a serious condition on Sunday.

Mr Nazar, a 30-year-old farmer of the Shadan village of the Kachho area, was going to a local court of Johi to get bail in a case registered against him at the Qasibo police station when he was injured as a result of police torture.

After being tortured, he was taken by the police to the Johi sub-jail. Later, he was taken to the Civil Hospital Dadu in a critical condition.

The citizens staged a demonstration in Johi town to protest against the police torture.

On Sunday, the in charge of investigation, Inspector A. Rakhio Jamali handed over the villager to his relatives through an influential person of the area.

At present, Mr Nazar is being treated at a private clinic in Johi.

Police was threatening him that if he took the matter to higher authorities, they would register another FIR against him.

The social and political workers of various political parties including the PPP taluka president, Johi Basheer Ahmed Thaheem, have condemned the police action and demanded the inspector general of police, Sindh, to take action against the police officials and provide justice.

On being contacted, the DPO, Dadu, M. Tahir Naveed said that the investigation police, Johi, had acted illegally.

He said that the in charge of the investigation team, Johi police, had approached him to register another case against Nazar Mohammed Birhamani, but he had disallowed it and had appointed the DSP, headquarters, Haji Sikandar Ali Mangi as inquiry officer.

He said that after the completion of the inquiry, if the police officials of the investigation team were found guilty, a case would be registered against them.
