NBP raises draft charges

KARACHI, July 6: The state-run National Bank has increased the bank drafts and mail transfer (MT) charges from July 1, 2002.
Banking sources say according to the new NBP tariff people transferring money within Pakistan will have to pay 0.20 per cent charge if the amount of the draft or MT is up to Rs 10,000. And if the amount is between Rs10,001-Rs50,000 the bank charge will be at the rate of 0.15 per cent.
Till June 30, NBP was charging its customers at the rate of 0.15 per cent for bank drafts and MTs up to Rs10,000 and at 0.12 per cent for the drafts and MTs worth between Rs10,001- Rs50,000.
From July 1 the rate of bank charge on drafts and MTs worth between Rs50,001-Rs100,000 has risen to 0.12 per cent up from 0.10 per cent. Similarly drafts and MTs worth between Rs100,001 and Rs500,000 are being charged at the rate of 0.80 per cent up from 0.55 per cent. The customers transferring Rs500,001- Rs1 million through drafts or MTs are now being charged at the rate of 0.75 per cent up from 0.60 per cent and those transferring more than Rs1 million are paying 0.70 per cent fee. Previously they were paying 0.50 per cent.
NBP has kept unchanged its telegram charges on telegraphic transfers (TTs) at Rs50 per TT. It has also made no changes in postage charges on mail transfers keeping it intact at Rs30 in normal case and at Rs50 if the MT is sent by courier service.
The bank has also reduced the pay order charge from Rs50 to Rs25 for its account holders but for non-account holders it remains unchanged at Rs50.
The bank has also made no changes in its safe deposit lockers fee. The annual fee remains unchanged at Rs1,000 for small lockers; Rs1,500 for medium lockers; Rs2,500 for large lockers and Rs4,000 for extra large lockers.
